Wyoming Insurance License Requirements

All Texas Insurance licenses have essentially the same requirements:

  1. Study for exam ($60 - $199)
  2. Pass an exam with a 70% or higher ($62)
  3. Complete a background check through fingerprinting ($42)
  4. Submit an complete application
  5. Pay the required fee to the state (usually $50)

Study For Exam:

Studying comprises of a two-day live classroom course and then online practice tests.  You may also study completely online without a classroom, but it is recommended to attend a class for quicker licensing and the classroom courses include online studying as well.  If you attend a classroom course, you will likely be ready to take the exam within a week, if you study online online, it may take upwards of a month.

Select your exam from the list above, or scroll down to view the different requirements for each line of insurance, most tests will cost $62 and will require a 70% or higher to pass.  Most people will only need one of these exams:

  • Life, Accident & Health (known as Group 1)
    • Sells: Life, Health, Accident, Supplemental and Annuities
  • Property & Casualty (known as Group 2)
    • Sells: Home, Auto, Business, Bonds, and Workers Comp

Your exam will be scheduled/paid for through www.pearsonvue.com/tx/insurance    and will be completed at their location on their computer.  All exams are timed and multiple choice of A, B, C, D questions ranging from easy to difficult questions.  Questions use formats such as these:  Which of the following is TRUE, NOT TRUE, EXCEPT, MOST LIKELY, BEST DESCRIBES.  Typically leaving you with two answers that could be correct but you have to pick the best answer.

You will find out immediately after your exam that you have passed.

Finger printing may be scheduled either before your exam or after your exam and will cost roughly $42.  There will be a background check performed through the Texas Department of Public Safety (TDPS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).  Here is how to complete the background check:

  1. Print out the Fast Pass Form and complete sections 2 & 3
  2. Schedule the fingerprints at http://www.identogo.com/
  3. Bring the Fast Pass Form with you to your fingerprinting.
  4. The results will be electronically submitted to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI)

If you have something in your background, you may still obtain a license, but you may have a few hoops to jump through.  Obtain a copy of the police report from your incident, write a brief summary of what happened and why it happened and obtain a letter of recommendation from 2 trusted people.  You may submit all of that information to TDI with your license application and it will expedite the process.  The only people that have licenses declined are typically people convicted of fraud, burglary, robbery etc. and their application is only declined for 5 years.

Submitting an Application to TDI:

After you have passed your exam and completed your fingerprints, you will need to submit your application to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) along with a payment of $50.  The easiest way to submit your application is by going online to:  https://www.sircon.com/produceredge/texas/   .  Sircon is the parent company of Pearson Vue and is the administrator of licenses and exams within the state of Texas.  You may also submit a paper application, but it is strongly discouraged.
